Harnessing The Power Of Philanthropy
In a city known for innovation, PNOC Foundation, the philanthropic partner of the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC), is helping redefine the pace of scientific discovery—and what is possible for children facing brain cancer, the deadliest childhood cancer. Founded in 2013 by Bay Area parents Bruce and Allyn Campbell following their son’s brain tumor diagnosis, PNOC Foundation has grown into one of the Bay Area’s most consequential engines driving progress and innovation in childhood cancer research.

PNOC’s groundbreaking model was sparked in 2012 at UCSF by pediatric neuro-oncology innovators Drs. Sabine Mueller and Michael Prados. With a vision that was bold, innovative, and collaborative, they set out to challenge the status quo and bring hope where there was none. Their ability to bypass bureaucratic hurdles and rapidly translate innovative ideas into actionable, multi-institutional clinical trials has been nothing short of revolutionary. By leveraging private philanthropy and making collaboration amongst science, industry and patient families a cornerstone of their work, they have achieved unprecedented speed and flexibility in research, proving that the only way forward is together—no single researcher or institution can solve this problem alone.
PNOC has not only flourished; it has become a beacon of hope and a global leader in the fight against pediatric brain cancer. Starting with just seven collaborating institutions on the West Coast, it now brings together more than 300 pediatric brain tumor specialists across 43 children’s hospitals on six continents. By dismantling traditional barriers between institutions, sharing data, collaborating on discoveries, and accelerating promising therapies into clinical trials, PNOC is producing results. Its innovative research has already contributed to two historic FDA drug approvals—the first two drugs approved for pediatric brain cancer in 50 years.

Now, PNOC Foundation is thinking even bigger. Its Lose No Child campaign aims to accelerate the next generation of breakthroughs, ensuring that promising science is not delayed by a lack of funding while children and families wait. That mission comes to life at the PNOC Foundation’s Gratitude Gala, San Francisco’s feel-good event of the year. Returning November 14 to the Julia Morgan Ballroom, the gala brings together philanthropists, families, physicians, and researchers for an unforgettable evening with one shared goal: to accelerate research until we lose no child to brain cancer. As the Lose No Child campaign gathers global momentum, PNOC Foundation stands as a testament to how far an inspired community can move the needle—and how much further it intends to go.
